This page will provide with all the information you need for travelling to California, accommodation, and getting around the state.
Travelling to California
For international visiters, flying to California is relatively simple. There are multiple major airports such as Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), San Diego (SAN), and more. These airports are situated in some of California most popular and exciting cities, making it easy to go straight to the tourist areas! Flight time typically varies between 11 to 18 hours depending on wher eyopu are flying from, Prices range from £600 to £1100+ depending on the season, city, and ticket type. Make sure to book well in advance and during off seasons to get the best prices!
Visiters from within the US have a couple more options for getting to California. Flying is still an option, especially for people from the east coast, but driving, trains, and buses are all viable options as well. Driving from east coast cities like New York can take 5-7 days, but would be a fun and adventerous road trip! Keep in mind, this would dramatically change the cost of your trip. Take a look at the GreyHound bus service for a more affordable non-flying option.
Where to stay
Hotels in California can get very expensive due to the tourist nature of the major cities. In order to avoid high prices, take a look at hotels rated between 3 - 4.5 stars that are not located near tourist areas (Hollywood, Venice beach, Yosemite, etc.). Sites like Booking.com, TripAdvisor, and Hotels.com are great resources for finding the cheapest hotels and accommodations in whatever area you are travelling to.
Local travel
Travelling around the state doesn't have to be difficult. California has extensive public transport options such as trains and buses. Amtrak, the main train company in California, operate multiple different routes across the whole state. There are also train providers such as MetroLink and CalTrain that focus on metropolitan areas.
Renting a car is also a great way to get around California for American drivers. Look for reputable renting companies in the area that you are visiting, and ensure you bring your drivers license and any necessary documents.
